United Way surges past $1 million mark
Earlier this week, officials with the United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington announced that more than $1 million has been raised in the first three weeks of the 2012 fundraising campaign.
To be exact, by Oct. 3, $1.080,022 has been garnered for the organization, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and donors. This represents 32 per cent of the $3.35 million goal that was announced at the campaign kick-off breakfast back on Sept. 11.
Bhavana Varma, president and CEO of the United Way of KFL&A, credits companies such as the Ministry of Transportation, Empire Life, Correctional Service Canada, Assurant Solutions and Kingston General Hospital for reporting their results early, as well as direct mail and all of the great events that have been taking place across the region for raising so much, so quickly.
“Many people in our community are counting on the success of this year’s campaign,” she said in a press release.
“With just eight weeks to go, it is important that people get their pledges in.”
In 2011, United Way-funded programs helped 85,000 people in KFL&A.
Established in 1941, United Way serving KFL&A works with key partners, individuals and organizations to strengthen the community by bringing people and resources together to facilitate change. The United Way also addresses the root causes of social problems and works to bring lasting positive chance to help people live with hope, dignity and a sense of belonging.
