Community-wide effort shows commitment to supporting most vulnerable community members during difficult time
KINGSTON, ON (Nov. 26, 2020) The United Way KFL&A announced today that the annual campaign goal of $2.9 million has been surpassed, with the community raising $3,180,301. This achievement was announced by Campaign Chair Antje McNeely during a virtual campaign touchdown event on November 26, 2020 with more than 200 community members tuning in from various workplaces and sectors throughout KFL&A.
In addition to surpassing the campaign goal, McNeely announced that community members have donated $367,367 since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic through the COVID-19 Response Fund. This brings the total raised by the community to $3,547,668 during this challenging and unprecedented year.
“The KFL&A community continues to step up and show their support, especially when it is most needed,” said 2020 Campaign Chair Antje McNeely. “Thank you to all those who donated this year and to workplace volunteers who came up with new and innovative ways to make their campaigns a success. In times of crisis, we came together to make sure the most vulnerable members of our community are taken care of. This achievement will enable agencies to continue to do the important and essential work that is needed in these challenging times.”
Needs are greater than ever this year. During the first four months of the COVID-19 pandemic, 42,000 individuals received support through 87 programs.
The funds raised through the campaign will be distributed to local agencies immediately. The COVID-19 Response fund will continue to be used to respond to local needs with agencies using this funding to innovate, adapt their programs, add virtual components and technology.
“Thank you to all the agencies for their hard work and their dedication in helping raise awareness throughout the campaign; thank you to all the staff and volunteers, our campaign cabinet and committees; and thank you to all those who support and continue to support United Way,” added McNeely. “There is still significant need in our community and these needs will continue for the duration of the pandemic and well after it is over, but with the support and local love of this amazing community we can get through it together.”
