United Way and YouBidLocal Announce Joint Effort
An extra dimension to the ways in which supporters can donate to their local United Way
United Way and YouBidLocal announced a joint effort to encourage the sale of goods from downsizing or estate sales to benefit local member organizations.
The organizations will introduce people to the idea of donating the proceeds of their downsizing or estate sale to their local United Way. This will add an extra dimension to the ways in which United Way supporters can donate.
YouBidLocal is an online community based auction company that specializes in selling goods for people downsizing or settling an estate with no effort required from the seller. Goods are sold to local buyers eliminating the environmental footprint associated with packing and shipping.
“Many of our clients do not look at their sales proceeds as integral to their future income needs.” said YouBidLocal CEO Sushee Perumal, “for some people in that group, we think donating their proceeds to a cause they believe in will be appealing.” YouBidLocal will be donating part of its sale fees for any clients who utilize YouBidLocal through United Way.
Proceeds of the sale will help support a network of local United Way funded agencies that provide vital social services to thousands of people.
United Way focuses its funding on the following impact areas:
Belonging to Community: From Poverty to Possibility – Helping people engage in their community by strengthening neighbourhood revitalization efforts, reducing poverty and improving access to affordable housing.
Growing up Great: All That Kids Can Be – Ensuring children and youth are valued and supported members of the community, with opportunities and resources to help them reach their full potential.
Turning Lives Around: Healthy People, Strong Communities – Improving opportunities for people to access programs and supports that empower them to overcome barriers, build resilience, reduce isolation and be part of a caring, inclusive community.
