Special event and screening of The Tragically Hip’s new docuseries supports United Way KFL&A
First two episodes of ‘No Dress Rehearsal’ to screen at Isabel Bader Centre with Q&A event to follow
KINGSTON, ON (August 16, 2024)– United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington is excited to announce a special event and screening of the new docuseries The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal. Straight out of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and in partnership with the Kingston Canada Film Festival and Queen’s Department of Film & Media, the United Way KFL&A is thrilled to offer Kingston a unique film festival experience
The event, generously sponsored by McDougall Insurance, will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. Guests will be invited to walk the red carpet and enjoy the first two episodes of The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal and participate in a live audience Q&A, moderated by Bill Welychka and featuring Director Mike Downie, Executive Producer Jake Gold and members of The Tragically Hip.
“It’s an honour to be bringing our documentary back to Kingston, back to where it all began,” said Director Mike Downie. “It’s going to be a special night for me, the band and our families and everyone else in attendance who’s lucky enough to call Kingston home.”
Community members are invited to purchase tickets to the screening event, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to United Way KFL&A and the 2024 fundraising campaign.
“We are grateful beyond belief for the incredible opportunity to present a special screening to our community in support of the United Way KFL&A,” said Joanne Langlois, 2024 United Way Campaign Chair. “The evening will deliver a full film festival experience all for a great cause.”
Last year, United Way Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington provided crucial support to more than 71,000 people. Through 50 agencies and 118 programs locally, individuals and families received support for issues like food insecurity, homelessness, addictions, mental health and more.

About the Docuseries
The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal is a television documentary series, slated to premiere on Prime Video, worldwide, in 2024. Directed by filmmaker Mike Downie, the four-episode series profiles the history of the influential Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, including interviews with the band members and other cultural figures including actors Will Arnett, Dan Aykroyd and broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos.
The series will receive a preview screening in the Primetime program at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, in advance of its Prime Video debut.
