Success By 6 Week Supports KFL&A Kids
New Categories and Events Highlight the 6th Annual Success By 6 Week
The first six years in a child’s life are the most important. United Way is set to mark its sixth anniversary in KFL&A for Success By 6 Week, with events starting on May 5th, showcasing the importance of early childhood education and care, with an emphasis on “Making KFL&A Child-Friendly”.
The City of Kingston and the Counties of Frontenac and Lennox & Addington have officially proclaimed May 7th to 13th, 2012 as Success By 6 Week.
Success By 6 is a United Way initiative that ensures children aged 0-6 years in KFL&A have the supports and resources they need to get a healthy start in life. Success By 6 Week aims to increase public awareness about the importance of early childhood learning and care. Encouraging and providing opportunities for families, caregivers, friends and neighbours to “take the time, make the moments matter”, this week hosts a record number of events providing 108 no-cost or low-cost activities throughout Kingston and its neighbouring counties.
“The Committee worked hard this year to provide new and exciting events to the young people of our community. We brought back recurring events and developed new ones that are sure to be fun for the whole family,” says Greg Hinton, Co-Chair, Making KFL&A Child-Friendly Committee.
This year’s Success By 6 Week will feature various events under 6 categories – physical, learning, entertainment, environment and other fun activities. Returning favourites include a free child-friendly movie and popcorn, free parent and tot swims, and yoga. A new environment category offers special planting groups and a trip to Wolfe Island.
Several businesses and organizations in the region have come on board with exciting new events this year, offering their space and time to make Success By 6 Week another great event for the young people in our community!
