KINGSTON, ON / November 9, 2015 – The United Way offers public workshops for board members, staff and volunteers of not for profit agencies, helping them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become effective and responsible leaders.
The third workshop in the LDS series focuses on Risk Management. Risk can be defined as anything that threatens the ability of an organization to achieve its mission. Risk management is the process of anticipating risks and putting in place mechanisms to change and control risks. This workshop is an essential piece for boards and staff planning to embark on a Risk Management plan.
The workshop will be held Thursday, November 26, 2015 (5:00pm-7:30pm) at Ongwanada Auditorium, 191 Portsmouth Ave, Kingston.
“These workshops build the capacity of local volunteers and staff of not for profit organizations,” says Bhavana Varma, president & CEO of United Way KFLA. “The United Way believes in strengthening the voluntary sector and our volunteer-led workshops are a wonderful way to pick up some tips and tools to help agencies. Everyone involved in a not for profit will benefit from attending these low cost, effective learning opportunities.”
The facilitator for this workshop is Kim Murphy (CPA, CA), Director, Risk Management, Queen’s University. Kim Murphy brings tremendous expertise from her experience at Queen’s. She has worked with the Board and leadership to develop a framework that allows for risk to be managed in a structured way and allows for a strong risk management culture within the University
