Queen’s Students invite you to visit The Land of the Olympians
Public invited to tour the Queen’s Science Formal on November 7
Kingston, ON (Nov 2, 2015) – For one day only, and in support of United Way KFLA, Queen’s Engineering students will open the doors of the 2015 Science Formal and give the community a sneak peak of their highly anticipated event. This year, they’re working overtime transforming Grant Hall into Land of the Olympians.
The Open House will take place on Saturday, November 7, from 10:00am to 3:00pm. During this time Grant Hall will be open to the public for walk-throughs. This is a great time to really take in the results of all the hard work of the 4th year engineering students and their guests.
Design, construction and logistics for the event take over a year in planning and preparation. Over 600 students come together to commit to a combined total of 35,000 hours of construction. Listed as one of the 10 Best Black Tie events in North America, the engineering class of 2015 is hoping to astonish attendees with their impressive creations.
The Science Formal dates back to the early 1900’s and over time it has evolved into a formal black-tie affair that commemorates the hard work and talents of the graduating class of engineering students. It was not until 1923 that the students proposed the idea of elaborate designs and large structures. 1943 marked the beginning of major themes such as James Bond, Atlantis, Planet Earth and Great Cities of the World.
The walk-through is an exclusive opportunity to see the creativity and design of Queen’s Engineering Students. Entry will be by donation to the United Way. Over the past twelve years the Science Formal Open House has raised over $14,000 for United Way.
