FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Virtual Workplace Awards Luncheon Recognizes Local Volunteers
United Way celebrates volunteers as the driving force behind the campaign

Kingston, ON (April 27th, 2022) The United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington is excited to recognize workplace volunteers who made a significant positive impact. The virtual appreciation luncheon, sponsored by Bell, will take place on April 28th, 2022, with attendees receiving a brown-bag Pan Chancho Café & Bakery takeout lunch of choice, thanks to this sponsorship.

In 2021, workplaces made up 62 per cent of the money raised during the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. The awards event takes place during National Volunteer Week this year, to honour the achievements of workplace volunteers, Labour groups and media partners. The United Way will also introduce the 2022 Campaign Chair.

“On behalf of the 74,000 people that have been or will be impacted by your efforts I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart,” said Daren Dougall, 2021 Campaign Chair, United Way KFL&A. “So much of the work of the campaign is done by volunteers, people who are willing to reach out to their coworkers and communicate the benefits of giving to charity. Our volunteers go over and beyond, and in 2021, helped to raise a record amount in our community. I hope they know how much of an impact they have had on people’s lives.”

This event will see several awards being handed out including Participation Awards, Britton Smith Foundation Leadership Awards, Achievement Awards, Labour Awards, Media Awards, Local Love Awards, and Most Improved Awards.

The “Voice of Community Award” is an award sponsored by Bell in memory of Greg Hinton, a long-time United Way volunteer. It goes to a member of the United Way’s Speakers Bureau, which is made up agency volunteers and staff who make presentations in workplaces. This year’s award goes to Shawn Seargeant from Lionhearts Inc.
