Bike for United Way Cyclists to make Kingston stop on September 13
B4UW Riders hope to raise awareness
KINGSTON, ONT. / September 9, 2013 – Bike for United Way (B4UW), an annual fall ride undertaken by Ontario Public Service employees who volunteer their vacation time, expenses, and energy to support the United Way and promote healthy living will arrive in Kingston on September 13.
In total 35 staff from 15 Ontario government ministries are volunteering to cycle from one of three cities – Ottawa, Windsor or North Bay – to Toronto. Each route will take five days to complete, with all riders meeting at Queen’s Park on September 16.
Ten riders are participating on the Ottawa team, led by Peter Makula, a Kingston-based employee with the Ministry of Transportation. Makula’s team will stop at Ministry of Health, 49 Place D’Armes, in Kingston at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday September 13.
This year riders hope to raise awareness and $75,000 for United Way across Ontario. Last year Ontario government employees raised $55,000 during the 1st annual ride which was from Thunder Bay to Toronto.
The participants are challenging themselves for a great cause. Funds raised through the ride will help the United Way’s network of member agencies and programs ensure that hundreds of thousands of Ontarians have access to vital social services when and where they need it most – in their community.
