Bid on great art in Kingston This Week’s silent auction for United Way
The silent auction is on.
This auction is a part of Kingston This Week’s United Way fundraising campaign
Local artists James Keirstead, Tana Gordanier, Helmut Przontka and Kingston This Week photo editor Rob Mooy have donated their works for this worthy cause.
Referred to as “Keirsteads,” James Keirstead’s prints have become the favourite of millions around the world. The framed print up for grabs is titled Sharbot Lake.
This world-renowned artist wanted to paint from his early boyhood. During his years as a constable with the OPP, he haunted art galleries and libraries, took art courses, sketched and painted at every opportunity.
In 1965, he took the precarious plunge into the art world.
His first paintings were of Ontario, landscapes, homes, barns and old mills that are now synonymous with the angular Keirstead signature.
Keirstead’s list of artistic accomplishments includes hundreds of limited edition prints and reproductions, many collector plates and three books of his art.
Tana Gordanier has donated two of her works of art, an unframed print featuring a cardinal and a ready-to-hang canvas depicting African elephants. Both would make a warm addition to any room.
Born and raised on a dairy farm in Joyceville, Gordanier spent a great deal of her childhood trying to find time for a creative outlet.
While studying at Queen’s University, her art instructor bluntly stated she should never teach art. She studied B.Ed at Queen’s University, but in the 1990s she began painting watercolours.
From there she developed an eye-pleasing sense of design which was incorporated into her photography in 2000.
Her wonderfully bright and warm images are now seen all over the country.
Helmut Przontka, an accomplished photographer and local entrepreneur, took the incredible photo of two polar bears fighting during a trip to Churchill, Manitoba.
A framed photo featuring a ring-billed gull on a bright blue sky has been donated by Kingston This Week photo editor Rob Mooy.
He has worked in the newspaper industry as a photojournalist for over 40 years. His photos have greeted KTW readers every time they open their paper for the past 28 years.
During his time with Kingston This Week, Mooy has garnered many provincial, national and international awards, including two Ontario photographer of the year awards.
His photos have been published in many national and international magazines, books and also hang in many homes across the country.
