Concert In Scarlets Coming March 19, 2011

Over 80 performers from Royal Military College cadets will take to the stage to show off their talents during the college’s annual Concert in Scarlets, Saturday, March 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingston Gospel Temple located at 2295 Princess Street.

The show features Brass & Reeds, Pipes & Drums, Highland dancers and Choir performing modern, traditional, military and highland music, as well as a few jazz numbers by the Stage band Club.

College’s Director of Music, Master Warrant Officer Martin Huppé, says the afternoon will be full of diverse pieces of music by Holst, Vivaldi, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Carlos Santana, Lalo Schifrin to name a few. RMC ‘s trumpet section and the trombone section will perform “Bugler’s Holiday” and “Trombone Rag”. Many Stage Band’s soloists will take the opportunity to play solos in “Hit the Bricks” composed by Gordon Goodwin. Also a great number by The Trews called “Highway of Heroes” will require all groups. WO Eugene Heather, RMC Drum Major, will take the second part of concert with RMC Pipes & Drums and Highland Dancers. This part will include performances by our best pipers and drummers. Our famous Drum Salute will be done under “black lights”. Our Highland female and male dancers will also amaze you throughout this great second part!

“The United Way supports many wonderful organizations in our community,” say Huppé and Heather. “We’re a part of this community and we’re happy to do help with what we do best, music.”

“We’ve always been able to count on the cadets during our fall fundraising campaign,” says United Way President Bhavana Varma. “We’re excited that they’ve decided to augment their support through the concert like they did with their Christmas concert. With so much talent on stage, it should be a wonderful afternoon.”

The event raised $3000 last year for United Way.

• Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, students, children under 10 receive free admission (no ticket required).
