New Awards Recognize Volunteer Contributions
United Way Celebrates National Volunteer Week with Breakfast, Awards
Some of our community’s most dedicated volunteers will get the chance to take a well-deserved bow as the local United Way Volunteer Services shines the spotlight on volunteers this April.
As part of National Volunteer Week, coming April 15th through 21st, United Way Volunteer Services is handing out the first ever Volunteers Grow Community Awards to honour some of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington residents who make a difference in our community.
Charities, not-for-profit organizations and businesses can nominate deserving volunteers who are active in charitable agencies, hospitals, schools, sports leagues, religious institutions, community centres, research facilities, long-term-care facilities or cultural groups. Nominees can be recognized for organizing fundraisers, leading important initiatives, mentoring or coaching, serving on boards or in celebration of an outstanding service record.
“The spirit of volunteerism has always been alive and well in our community,” says United Way President and CEO Bhavana Varma. “This award gives us a chance to recognize some volunteers publicly every year and hopefully inspire more people to follow in their footsteps and make a difference.”
Nomination forms are available at the United Way’s Bagot Street offices or through their website, www.unitedwaykfla.ca. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 16th.
The awards will be handed out at the United Way Volunteer Services Volunteer Week Breakfast, Tuesday, April 17th, 7:00am to 8:30am at Davies Hall in St. Lawrence College. Celebrated Canadian philanthropist and media personality Craig Kielburger will be the featured speaker. Kielburger is the founder of Free the Children and and co-founder of Me to We. Craig began volunteering in his home town of Thornhill, Ontario at the age of 12 and is a sought-after speaker around the world.
The event and this year’s awards are proudly sponsored by Investors Group.
Tickets $12 each. For more information and to order tickets call 613-542-2674. Bring your volunteers and help us celebrate National Volunteer Week!
