RMC United Way Waterborne Obstacle Course Challenge
A couple of dozen people slipped on their swim trunks and jumped in the pool for a good cause today.
RMC hosted its first waterborne obstacle course to support the united way.
And as newswatch’s darryn davis found out, this event comes just as the United Way campaign heads into the homestretch
And they’re off …. trying to set the best time in the Waterborne Obstacle Course Challenge.
Teams of five paid twenty-five dollars to participate and have a shot at glory…or bragging rights at least.
Ryan Thompson/Organizer “Being our first one we’re hoping to make this annual. One is just a stepping stone so we’re hoping to get a few people out here spread the word, have a good time. ”
Dozens of community events like this one take place throughout the year raising funds for the united way and its member agencies.
Community involvement is the lifeblood for an organization like the United Way.
Bhavana Varma/President/CEO KFL&A United Way “Events are wonderful because they raise awareness, they give people a sense of fun, it reminds people why it’s important to get together and do things for the United Way.”
This obstacle course is also a fun way to promote physical fitness.
“While the pool may look like it’s filled with a bunch of fun blow up toys, rest assured getting through this obstacle course takes endurance, strength and teamwork.”
Melanie Parker/Participant “We kept moving the whole time and helped each other out on some of the taller obstacles I guess was a bit more challenging.”
Helene Pettis/ Team Captain “Some of the obstacles we had to help each other it’s not one of those things you can do by yourself so teamwork definitely required.”
The United Way has set a fundraising goal of three point three five million dollars this year …. Money that will help 85 thousand people across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.
