United Way Success By 6 Week: Touch The Trucks Draws Record Crowd in Napanee
On a beautiful May 8th evening in Napanee, the Lennox & Addington Resource Centre invited children and their parents or caregivers to Touch the Trucks as part of Success By 6 Week. Children were able to explore many sizes, types and colours of trucks. The evening also included a free BBQ courtesy of Napa Auto Parts.
“We had a great number of volunteers from Napa Auto Parts who did all of the cooking and donated an enormous number of door prizes.” says Mary Jane McLachlin, RECE, at LARC’s Ontario Early Years Centre. “All in all it was a spectacular event, enjoyed by families, volunteers and staff.”
In total, 574 people attended the event – 295 children and 279 adults. This is a remarkably increase over 220 attendees from 2012.
A trailer load food items collected and $135 in donations were also collected for the local food bank.
Success By 6 Week is designed to heighten public awareness of the importance of early years development and provide opportunities for young children, their families and caregivers to “Take the time, make the moments matter™”. This fun filled week of events and activities is designed with the youngest members of our community in mind. 140 free or low cost activities have been planned from May 4 to 12, 2013 at various locations across the KFL&A area.
Success By 6 is a United Way initiative that promotes partnerships and supports community programs to ensure that early childhood development is a priority in our community. For children, the time from conception to age 6 is a crucial development period, in which physical growth, emotional attachments, attitudes, behaviours, language and motor skills all develop.
