The united way hopes to reach it’s 3.4 million dollar fundraising goal through a number of ways. Including putting participants through their paces at a water obstacle course organized by the Royal Military College.
NEWSwatch’s Darryn Davis has more….
It may look like the water version of an air castle that kids like to jump around on, but make no mistake the water obstacle course is challenging and takes team work.
Ryan Thompson/ Team Fun
“We tried to talk some strategy and who’s going to do what but ultimately you just kind of through caution to the wind and at the time as a team you just try to get the obstacle done and hopefully in a decent time. ”
Sheila Johnston/ Captain Team Splashing Pumpkins
“A lot of the plans consist of the guys hoisting Megan and I over things.”
Teams of five pay twenty-five dollars to participate with the proceeds going to the United Way.
This is the second year for the event and organizers have doubled the number of teams this year over last year.
That said they hope to increase participation even more next year.
Bert Breuvart/Event Organizer
“We have about ten teams this year and hopefully next year we’ll double that and so on and it’s…I would just like to aware the public, it’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s for a good cause and you’ll have a ball. ”
Along with supporting the united way the obstacle course promotes physical fitness which is evident as teams near the finish line.
Daren Davis:
“And if climbing over, under, around and through six lanes of obstacles isn’t physically demanding enough competitors also have to finish the race by diving down and pulling up five of these twenty pound bricks.”
Sean McDonaugh/ Team PWOR
“By the time you get to the end there you’re pretty gassed and you’ve got to go down and hold your breath for a bit longer than you want to when you’re really breathin’ air, while it was the quickest obstacle it certainly wasn’t the easiest obstacle.”
Paul Butt
“It’s very demanding because you’re exhausted, you’re breathing really heavy and now you’ve got to hold your breath and go down.”
The united ways fundraising year wraps up November twenty-eighth.
