The 2013 United Way Campaign has come to an end
The 2013 United Way campaign has come to an end. This year’s fundraising goal was an ambitious one. The United Way wanted to raise more than 3.4 million dollars in only 12 weeks. More than 40 workplaces in the region jumped on board to help make that dream a reality. And today the grand total was revealed during the touchdown breakfast. The United Way not only reached its goal but it surpassed it. But the donations didn’t stop there. An additional 171-thousand dollars was raised during the Kingston Penitentiary Tours. Bringing the grand total to more than 3.6 million dollars. The United Way says all that extra cash thanks to the tours will help combat a growing problem in the area.
Bhavana Varma:
“We’re going to dedicate that to youth homelessness programs because youth homelessness is an issue one third of individuals in shelters are youth between the ages of 16 and 24.”
