Over many years, United Way has worked with community partners on the issue of homelessness. In its role as the Community Entity for Kingston, United Way facilitates community planning, identifies priorities, coordinates and supports a local Community Advisory Board.
The United Way coordinated “A Place First”, a community plan on homelessness in Kingston. The United Way and the City of Kingston are working together to implement the recommendations from this plan. Subsequently the City of Kingston has developed a ten year plan on homelessness (download the City of Kingston Report on Housing & Homelessness).
Homelessness (HPS) Funds
United Way, as the community entity, is responsible for distributing federal funding for homelessness. A volunteer panel makes recommendations based on guidelines and priorities established and recommended through a Community Advisory Board.
