KINGSTON, ON (September 9, 2016) – In front of a packed crowd at the annual kickoff breakfast sponsored by the Ambassador Conference Resort Centre, the local United Way announced a goal of $3,451,000, 1.5% higher than last year’s goal.
Brigadier-General Stephen Kelsey, Base Commander, CFB Kingston, was unable to attend the breakfast but addressed the crowd via recorded message. Kelsey commented on how impressed he is with the dedication and passion of the thousands of volunteers who raise funds to help local agencies support people in our community. He thanked agencies for the work they do every day, providing essential programs and supports for people in our community.
“The goal is achievable. But it is not just about the money. It is also about the involvement in our community and making a difference right here in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington” said Kelsey who is currently deployed but will remain in constant contact throughout the campaign. “There are a number of new initiatives, new people involved and I am confident our community will reach and exceed goal.”
To demonstrate the power of our community’s collective efforts, volunteers at each table read impact statements. Funded agencies served 75,000 people in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington last year.
The campaign runs for the next 12 weeks and wraps up on November 30th. 70% of funds are raised from workplace campaigns and the balance is donated by individuals in the community and a few community events.
